Professor Frank Rennie and Dr Gareth Davies in Bhutan

During the first week of May Professor Frank Rennie and Dr Gareth Davies visited the Kingdom of Bhutan as part of a joint project with staff at the Royal University of Bhutan.

The project was funded by the Scottish Funding Council as part of the University of the Highlands and Islands contribution to overseas aid with the least developed countries of the world. A series of workshops was delivered to explore the use of digital educational resources, CPD, and professional recognition for staff in Bhutan, in an exploration to ascertain appropriate interventions to enhance the quality of Higher Education in that country. The RUB is loosely based on the UHI model, with a network of colleges around the country, mainly as specialist subject centres. The workshop was held in the beautiful Punakha region, close to the College of Natural Resources at Lobesa. Senior staff from all over the country attended the meetings, and it is hoped that UHI can build on these links with the RUB to initiate more extensive projects.
